Chapter 3: Paradox in Teaching and Learning

Paradox in teaching and learning

·       In the teaching world we face all the time a kind of “suffering”, there are many ways in which I, as a student-teacher have faced it. Just to say something about it I going to mention one:
Sometimes I could see that one way in which I face a kind of suffering is when the students are not doing what I ask for. Then a kind of question comes to me and say me ¿how can I do, in order to solve this situation?

On my personal opinion all the “suffering situations” have a kind of redemption way and it is due to the issue in which we learn from our own experiences.

·         Well to talk about my strengths and difficulties as a teacher I want to say that they depend on my own attitude and preparation even they depend on our talent as educators; but there are some of them:

My strengths:
ü  I´m used to speaking in front of many people, consequently is a little easy handle the nerves.
ü  I love to involve and keep my students´ attention trough different activities like: warm ups, games, funny tasks in which they can develop their language skills etc.

My troubles:

ü  To make material because I´m not too good in drawing or doing crafts.
ü  I´m not too patient.

I understand that both my strengths and troubles are related in the way in which I need to increase and use my strengths to overcome my troubles. Thus my strengths are the things that I´m already able to do and my troubles are the things that I need to overcome through using of my strengths.

One moment in which I remember that I was thinking that I really love to teach was when most of my students were engaged with the class. All of them were paying attention and asking some questions.

On the other hand the worst moment in my teaching experience was at the very beginning when nobody wanted to stay in the class and I remember that I was thinking about myself as a teacher and a question came to me ¿Am I doing well?

The space should welcome both silence and speech:
We, as teachers, must take into account both of them for example:

The classroom must invite the students to participate this is due the classroom environment, and on the other hand to keep the silence when it is necessary.
